The 8 yard skip holds 60 to 80 bin bags and typically costs £220 to £330. Its defining feature is that it is the largest skip most firms will let you fill entirely with soil, rubble or hardcore, which makes it the default for extensions, driveways being dug up and garden walls coming down.
Drop-door versions are common and worth requesting for any job involving a wheelbarrow, since lifting rubble over a 1.2 metre side gets old within the hour.
Check the space carefully. An 8 yarder is over three metres long, the lorry needs to stand alongside or in front while lifting, and overhead cables and tree branches have ended plenty of deliveries. If your driveway is borderline, most firms would rather look at a photo before the day than fail the drop on it.
Prices are typical national ranges, always flagged as such, and your postcode moves them. Check the skip hire cost guide for regional detail, or go straight to local firms near you for a real quote.
